Creative expression is known to have positive effects on our overall well-being. As a Transpersonal Art Therapist and Mental Health Support Worker, Diane’s focus is on using creative art processes to assist in mental health recovery journeys.
What are the benefits of heARTful classes?
The heARTful Online Art Group is an ongoing virtual class where participants can process their thoughts and feelings through art with the support of a community of peers, facilitated by a mentor who is skilled in holding the space they need to explore while feeling safe.
Participants will have the opportunity to:
Improve on existing skills, as well as learn new ones (in art and other areas).
Benefit from the process of engaging in structured and free expression activities
Engage with their peers in a safe online environment
Enhance and develop social connections, emotional expressions, and insight
Be guided in planning for their future, including goals and dreams they wish to pursue, as well as developmental activities they would need to undertake to achieve them
Play and have fun
Who would this class suit?
The heARTful classes would best suit people who:
Feel isolated and would like to engage with peers in a safe space over a common interest
Are interested in exploring their creativity
Experience anxiety or depression
This online group is for anyone who enjoys or wants to explore art. There is no prior experience required.
What activities are available?
Participants may choose different ways to participate, depending on individual needs or desires. They may choose to do one or all of the following:
Bring along a project to work on over a number of weeks
Work on an art journal week by week (journalling with artistic expression)
Take the creative drawing challenge to create a picture from the inspiration provided by the facilitator
Even though this is an creative art group, it is not compulsory to engage in creating art every time. Sometimes, simply attending the class is enough to feel supported by peers and the facilitator.
What materials are needed?
Participants need their favourite art materials on hand to do the activities from home, such as pencils, markers, paints, art paper for drawing or painting, glue.
Are any materials included in the cost of the class?
Participants receive a complimentary art kit (valued over $100.00) as a welcome gift upon sign up. This will include basic art journaling materials and will be topped up each month with an additional small gift to build up their art kit.
What are the class details?
The cost of participating in the heARTful Online Art Group is $100 per session, per person.
