Drawing Emotions

Jun 23, 2015 | Uncategorized

I want to share with you a process that I do every day and encourage my clients to do as well.

It allows me to move through and release my emotions so that they just don’t sit and fester within. For many people, they love to journal but I love to draw, so I combine both to help me connect with my emotions and now are able to see them in a spectrum of colour. So often I see my emotions reflected back at me through colour before I am even aware that I am holding this emotion in my body. I have a wide palette of emotions in all different colours. They are unique to me and me only as sometimes my anger is a lilac, not a colour you would normally associate with anger.

This exercise can be attempted even when happy.

You will need:

  • Paper or small note book
  • Coloured pencils or pastels
  • Set aside 10 to 15 minutes a day

Draw a circle on your paper, draw within the circle. Sit and connect with the emotions you are feeling, taking a deep breath, in and out, in and out. pick up the first colour you are attracted to and just draw…… then continue changing colours for every emotion that you connect with…..

Write words if they come, symbols, pictures or just colour whatever comes let it onto the paper.

When you have finished on the back or opposite page you may wish to do some writing (up to you).
Every day that you practice this you will be becoming more attuned to your emotions and the colour palate that is you. The more you practice the easier it is to release and free yourself from the emotions being held within.

See your emotions in your artwork, the colours you wear, you will be more finely attuned to how you are feeling by the colours that surround you. Emotions are held deep within the body a lot of times not even being aware of what we are holding.

So take 10 minutes a day release yourself.

If you are interested in knowing more about art and emotions, why not book in for a 1:1 session with me and learn more processes to help with releasing your emotions.

You don’t have to be an artist to pick up a pencil ……you just need the desire….
